Masculinities and Migration in Latinx and Francophone Literatures and Cultures

Masculinities and Migration in Latinx and Francophone Literatures and Cultures

Autor: Brandon P. Bisbey , Adrián Herrera Fuentes

Número de Páginas: 236

This book adopts a transatlantic approach to consider literature and cultural products produced by authors confronted with the experience of migration, working from or looking in the direction of the Global North. It offers a comparative framework which underlines the differences and similarities between the Francophone and Latino American cultural spheres. The volume explores different aspects –gender identity, sexuality, violence – encountered in the intersectionality between masculinity and migration around the world. It also contextualizes this global phenomenon across two hemispheres, looking at colonial history, the role of migration, the predominant religion, racial identities, and levels of economic development. Chapters examine novels, short stories, TV, and other types of cultural production. Perspectives avoid as far as possible hierarchical, vertical and binomial configurations between self and other, North and South, male and female. ENDORSEMENTS A timely volume that invites us to explore how migration in the United States and Europe is changing our approach to masculinity studies. Its focus on migration and undesired migrants from the Global South, hegemonic...

Historias del arte en Colombia

Autor: Olga Isabel Acosta Luna , Natalia Lozada Mendieta , Juanita Solano Roa

Major exhibition catalogue of the art, photography, graphic art, and decorative art related to Colombian Independence. Divided into nine chapters with extensive texts. Novel historic viewpoint that explores how the events and personages of the Independence movement have been portrayed and represented by different actors and institutions like museums, archives, academia, the universities and the social and political organizations for the last 200 years. The museographic script proposes 3 different tours that invite reflections over the representations or images where the Colombians have learned about their past, and where in this bicentennial, contrasting to the one celebrated 100 years ago where Colombians were unified under "one race, language and religion", or the central government impositions or forgot the cruelty of war. The first station called 'Portal Americas' exhibits the first images of liberty, territory and construction of patriotic symbols and rituals. The second station 'Estación héroes' reflects on how the 'heroes" has been the main promotional instrument of the construction of history. Step Wise Protocols for Somatic Embryogenesis of Important Woody Plants

Step Wise Protocols for Somatic Embryogenesis of Important Woody Plants

Autor: Shri Mohan Jain , Pramod Gupta

Número de Páginas: 321

World population is increasing at an alarming rate and this has resulted in increasing tremendously the demand for tree products such as wood for construction materials, fuel and paper, fruits, oils and medicines etc. This has put immense pressure on the world’s supplies of trees and raw material to industry and will continue to do so as long as human population continues to grow. Also, the quality of human diet, especially nutritional components, is adversely affected due to limited genetic improvement of most of fruit trees. Thus there is an immediate need to increase productivity of trees. Improvement has been made through conventional breeding methods, however, conventional breeding is very slow due to long life cycle of trees. A basic strategy in tree improvement is to capture genetic gain through clonal propagation. Clonal propagation via organogenesis is being used for the production of selected elite individual trees. However, the methods are labour intensive, costly, and produce low volumes. Genetic gain can now be captured through somatic embryogenesis. Formation of embryos from somatic cells by a process resembling zygotic embryogenesis is one of the most important...
