11 contributions consider legacy and archive data (1896–1995) and results derived from recent archaeological investigations (2012–2017) to present a review and analysis of the chrono-stratigraphy, material culture, urbanism, and economic and ritual practices at El Palacio, northern Michoacán, Mexico, between A.D. 850 and 1521.
The 6th edition of the inernational semiar this year includes the participation of researchers from Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela, Paraguay and Ecuador. Its objective was to deepen the discussions about the notion of permanence and presence, as well as the value attributed to historical monuments; to permanent public sculptures, projects and temporary artistic actions that are established in the current public sphere problematizing the relations between image and power constituted in the Latin American territory. The recent exhibition of the painter Francisco Icaza (El Salvador, 1930 Mexico, 2014) brought together works of different techniques and periods for the first time. The exhibition curated by Santiago Espinosa de los Monteros and Natalie Gama Pourdanay, had a total of 145 works, that represent a selection in the production of Francisco Icaza's artisitc career, including unknown or very little exposed pieces. The publication that accompanies the exhibition includes critical texts and is complemented by a chronology that highlights the most important events in the painter's life; all this, illustrated with the works that were presented in the exhibition.
In commemoration of its 45th anniversary, the Museo Nacional de San Carlos, opened the exhibition dedicated to post-impressionist master painter Joaquín Sorolla (b. Spain 1863-1923) and his contemporaries comprising more than 50 pieces, mostly from the holdings of the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana, Cuba along with pieces from the Museum of San Carlos, the Franz Mayer Museum and some private collections in Mexico. The exhibition presents a collection of full of light and colorful painted scenes of the everyday life in Spain during the late 19th century and early 20th century through a selection of paintings by the Spanish masters of Luminism style: Joaquín Sorolla, Manuel Benedito, Ignacio Pinazo, Hermenegildo Anglada, Eduardo Chicharro, José Luis Benllure, Gonzalo Bilbao, Santiago Rusiñol and Ignacio Zuloaga.
